ALASKA STATE FAIR
The largest annual fair in Alaska is the Alaska State Fair, which is held in Palmer, Alaska. The ISKF Alaska region sent a youth demonstration team to perform at the fair to promote ISKF Alaska and to introduce the public to the three main elements of Shotokan karate, kihon, kata and kumite.

ISKF ALASKA SUMMER CAMP
The ISKF Alaska Region recently held another successful Alaska Summer Karate Camp at Birchwood Camp (located in Chugiak, Alaska) on August 8th - 11th. Our guest instructor was Sensei Cathy Cline, a very experienced and talented 8th Dan who has been visiting our Alaska Summer camp since the 1980s. Over the four days of summer camp, Sensei Cline and the other instructors in our region led valuable (and tough!) training sessions and shared with us their philosophy in the art of karate-do.

Dan examinations were held on the last day of camp, and were administered by Sensei Cline. Congratulations to the following individuals on their successful examinations:

We would like to give a very big congratulations to Sensei Catherine Margolin, who recently passed her 7th Dan exam at the 2013 Master Camp in Green Lane, PA. Ms. Margolin was a direct student of Sensei Yaguchi for many years, and we are very lucky that we have had someone as talented as her join our region and become a member of our karate family.
Another special congratulations goes out to Sensei Mike Tavoliero, who was awarded his Class C instructor and examiner's certification ranking at this year's Master Camp.

Sensei Susan Jones recently visited the Gambell Island dojo to teach a seminar and conduct a rank test. There was a very nice size group that participated, and Mrs. Jones was treated to the wonderful hospitality of the community of Gambell. The Nome Nugget featured an article in their newspaper about her visit; the link to that article is below:
APRIL 2013
Congratulations to everyone who participated in the kyu and Dan exams that were held in Juneau and Anchorage on April 19th & 20th! Everyone showed great spirit and, even more importantly, proper etiquette for Sensei Larry Loreth, who came all the way from Winnipeg, Canada to administer the exams. Sensei Loreth also held two training seminars on April 21st that were very well attended. Those who participated in the exams and the seminars on Sunday all trained hard and represented ISKF Alaska with strong spirit.
